Tell Your Representative:
Support Our Afghan Allies in Fiscal Year 2027!
The House Committee on Appropriations is crafting the government spending package for Fiscal Year 2027 (FY27). This is an important legislative opportunity that has historically included critical provisions to support our Afghan allies – increasing the number of Special Immigrant Visas (SIVs) the Afghan SIV program can issue to bring vetted allies to safety and conducting oversight on the operation of the program.
It is key that your Representative hears from you – their constituent – that keeping the promise to our Afghan allies is an urgent priority that should be included in FY27 Appropriations
Write to Your Representative:
Dear Representative [XXX- Insert the Member’s Name-XXX],
My name is [XXX-Insert Your Name-XXX], and I am your constituent in [XXX-Insert Your City and Zip Code-XXX]. Like veterans, faith leaders, employers, and fellow Americans across the country, I recognize the moral and national security imperative to move our Afghan allies to safety. I am writing to ask you to stand with the allies from our longest war by including 20,000 Special Immigrant Visas (SIVs) for the Afghan SIV program in this year’s appropriations bill.
Fiscal Year 2027 Appropriations is a critical bill for the Afghan SIV program as the Department of State determines the path forward for America’s allies left behind. As your constituent, I urge you to join the request letters to increase the visa cap and support appropriate reporting to Congress. This is an opportunity to keep our promise to the Afghans who stood alongside our troops and diplomats by reopening the Afghan SIV program.
I look forward to your response and to your support for including reporting and 20,000 SIVs in the appropriations bill this year!
Sincerely,
[XXX-Insert Your First and Last Names-XXX]
Call Your Representative:
Please note, interns and junior staff often manage the phones. The call is still an important tool to show your support for our Afghan allies. The most effective message is calm and clear, and it includes your name and zip code so the team can pass it on to the Representative.
