More than 1,000 Afghan evacuees are currently at Camp As Sayliyah (CAS), a U.S. facility and former military base in Qatar, all of whom were moved to CAS by the U.S. government (USG) with the intention of swift and safe resettlement. However, the Administration had pursued negotiations to move these families to the Democratic Republic of Congo, which would have put these Afghan evacuees at great risk.
Our partners in Congress are leading a bipartisan effort to support “secure, stable, and cost‑effective pathways that uphold U.S. national security interests and honor our commitments” to these Afghan evacuees, including through refugee admissions.
It is key that your Representative hears from you – their constituent – that you want them to sign the bipartisan Crow-Bacon letter.
Call Your Representative:
Please note, interns and junior staff often manage the phones. The call is still an important tool to show your support for our Afghan allies. The most effective message is calm and clear, and it includes your name and zip code so the team can pass it on to the Representative.
Hello! My name is [XXX-Insert Your Name-XXX], and I am your constituent in [XXX-Insert Your City and Zip Code-XXX].
I am calling because I am alarmed that nearly 1,100 Afghan evacuees may be transferred from the U.S. facility in Qatar, known as CAS, without consideration of their safety. I am asking that Representative [XXX- Insert the Representative’s Name-XXX] help keep the promise to our Afghan allies and sign the bipartisan Crow-Bacon letter supporting safe resettlement of the families at CAS.
As your constituent, can I count on my Representative to join this bipartisan letter? [Note: Whether they can commit to an answer or not, remain clear and respectful.]
Thank you for sharing my message with the Representative.
[Optional - If you would like a written response] Thank you for passing on my message to the Representative. I would also like to request a written response from the Representative on this letter. My email address is [XXX- Insert Your Email Address -XXX].
