This is part 2 of a 5-part series about Ibrahim’s journey to the United States.

When an Iraqi or Afghan ally chose to serve the United States, they put not only their own life in danger, but their family’s as well.

The other day, we met Ibrahim.

He served as an interpreter for the U.S. Marines in Iraq. For three years, he didn’t see his family due to the dangers his service and association with the U.S. brought.

In addition to physical danger, the mental toll that a prolonged SIV process can have on an applicant also impacts the entire family.

Ibrahim shares how his mother was his strength during those years, even as she suffered.

This is an important and often untold part of the story and sacrifice that our allies made when they made the decision to serve the United States.

This is all the more reason we need to keep our promise to all our allies - in Iraq, Afghanistan, and beyond.
