This is part 3 of a 5-part series about Ibrahim’s journey to the United States.

You can hear it in his voice: the frustration, the sense of injustice, the weight of 15 years lost. That’s how long it took for Ibrahim to finally receive his Special Immigrant Visa.

Despite the threats facing our allies, which force many of them into hiding, SIV processing often takes years. And for many of our Iraqi allies, like Ibrahim, delays stretch across decades.

The Iraqi SIV programs have been plagued by backlogs and a deep lack of transparency, leaving our allies like Ibrahim - people who served shoulder to shoulder with U.S. troops - in fear and limbo.

Ibrahim chose to share his story with the hope that it will help create change. He knows this wasn’t how it was supposed to be.

Our allies deserve better.
